I will no longer pronounce Ecclesiastical Latin.
Since I'm a medievalist of the English bent, it's only proper that I should at least learn how to pronounce Anglo-Latin, even if due to the conformity of the U.S. church and my community, I probably sh(c)ould use it only privately.

A Feline hymn, Part I
When I take rest upon my bed
And lie in wait til dawn of day
The dark of night about my head
Till dawneth morning's piercing ray
A nightly visit I receive
The guest so small and ever bright
whose visit causeth me to grieve
That sleep's embrace should leave before light
My little one doth come and cry
across the hill,outside our wall
Through cloak of night sendeth his sigh
That I should rise and hear his call
Though it be late, yea early right
he crieth that I may be wooed
To rise and grant the gift he likes
A bowl o'erfowing with kitty food
Should I ignore his cries and keep,
My comfort in sleep's sweet embrace:
he will not fear displeasure to shew,
by noise and clamour till I weep.
And raising from my weary rest,
Should fill his dish with danties fair,
and keep the vigil with my guest
till full, he sleep, in silence rare.
Let not his innocence deceive,
for he in want doth freely annoy,
by meows, and growls, and taketh his leave
only when food fulfills his joy.
In night, fear not when rings the crash
for theif and robber here are not,
The hungry feline now doth dash,
about the house and things doth knock.
O grant us Lord, who keep a cat,
thy stedfast patience while we rest:
that they whose care we daily keep
May prove us patient until death
Praise we the Triune Deity,
ruling the Orb in all his ways,
who grants his creatures surety
of food from owner all his days.
I just can't figure out why this was'nt in the English language edition of the Liturgy of the hours.
*For now at least.
And also,
Which I've only watched twice, but I love it.That show is old, and I remeber watching re-runs when I was little. And I love Link, not just for that show and the games, but also because of X-play's ong-running Drunk Link sketches.I can't find any of those online, but just watch X-Play on G4 and eventualy you'll see them.
And now,If you'll excuse me* I'll go take my Ritalin.

And also,
Which would have been useful to me when I was trying to learn how to play This. It's deceptive, because it sounds simple, but then you see the music and the fingering and the great big stretches you need to be able to do to get the chords down. And I can stretch over an octave and I still couldn't play it well.

Requiem aternam....

I'm using my brother's wireless today, and I have lots of news.
Firstly, They are having a high mass of requiem on All Souls Day, November 2nd at 7:00 PM. Tell your friends and spread the news! This'll be the first non-novus ordo requiem I'll have attended in about two or three years. I'm wondering if there will be unbleached candles.
Also, we're having a parish mission on the 26th-27th. The last one was great, Hopefully this year's preacher will be as good as the last one.
Last week I started my aspirancy with These Guys. I spent the weekend at the monastery. It was great, cold weather and a rather unfriendly pet cat notwithstanding.I was given a tour of both the monastery and S.Charles' seminary on City Line ave. Both have wonderful libraries.
These Guys now have weekly solemn vespers using the Liber Usualis. I went on the feast of the Maternity of the B.V.M., and it was good, if a bit shaky. Somehow, I forgot to bring my Liber with me, but I'll bring it next time.
And speaking of chant,I learned some of the requiem propers and the propers for Christ the King. Both have rather simple introits, but the gradual of the requiem mass threw me off halfway through.
And getting back to the main topic, I have questions for anyone who might know the answers:
1) Is it permissible to have reliquaries on the altar during a sung requiem, or do they have to be removed? What about flowers?
2)Is the catafalque obligatory for requiems on all souls day, or is it just optional?
3)If not, do you still have the absolution after mass, even without the catafalque?

Award.
So I got my aard yesterday. I went straight home, got dressed, aited for mom to get dressed, and then we were off. The trolley driver decided to have a 30 minute chat after the written departure time, and we missed the 46, but were still early. I heard the brothers singing my fifth favorite hymn tune Llanfair, and before dinner, we sang the Regina caeli. Dinner as great. Mom does'nt usually eat red meat, but she ate some steak. The broccoli as the best I've ever had. We got to Ss.Peter and Paul on time, and waited an hour. I made my preparation before mass, and mass started with a long, long, long, procession. (With a song that as too short to cover it. ) The cantor who sang the responsorial psalm was great. Unlike the other musicians, he had a good strong , clear voice. The setting was extremely catchy, and I liked it. I wish I could donload it for my music player, but it's probably composed by him. Please, please, please, I hate the Celtic alleluia. It's literally the one setting that I can not and will not sing. Alstott's are much better, and easily singable.
I was in my POD mood, so I after my usualy to acclamations at the elevation I said S.Ambroses's prayer Salve salutaris victima, a prayer often used in medeival England at mass.
At communion, I think Fr. Check from Seek his Face gave me communion. When I got back to my seat, I said Clement XI's Universal Prayer. There were at least 100 total awards recipients, and being classists, they put us lowly Philadelphia South Vicariates last. I'm shicked that the lady announced mt name right. And Bishop McFadden told me told me that he was actually from Lourdes. If that's true, it's be mega cool. To be nominated for an award by your parish priest, and to then be given it by one of your diocese's auxiliary bishops, who happens to actually be from said parish?
I met three or four people from the parish that I did'nt even know were going to be there. Then we went home amidst talk of scrapple, corned beef hash, spam, and my mother's childhood while growing up with a family-run general store. (And sunsequent injuries.) I got home very late, said compline, read one chapter from True Devotion, then I was knocked out. The cat decided to sleep on my pillows, and I just let her this one time.

On the Blessed Sacrament and the Passion.
Early, I know, but then again, not really. Qucikly, very quickly, we will arrive at Maundy thursday, a solitary flash of joy and glory in what has been so far a bit of a glum and uneventful week. With the passing days, the hour of Our Lord's passion draws ever nearer, and the calm of passion week will give way to the agony of Maundy Thursday night, and the anguish and terror of Good Friday. And you and I should be trying at least to actively participate in our lord's passion by prayer, penance, fasting, meditation, and participation in the liturgy of the day.Which brings me to my point. It is a good practice to prepare for your communion the day before, or several days before. It's Spy Wednesday, and now is a good time to watch, pray. and meditate in preparation for the triduum. As we know, every tme the mass is offered, the passion of the Lord Jesus is made present in a mystical way, one explained by many minds grater and far more learned than I could try to explain.
But we know that it is present, so every time we attend mass, we must without failing, ask ourselves 'which side am I on?'
Ask yourself that right now.
Of all the groups and individual people present at our Lord's passion, who are you when you go to mass?
Are you like Magdalene, preparing for Jesus by penintence and prayer, by the costly perfumed oil of meditation and desire, Or like Judas, giving him a kiss of betrayal by an unprepared communion?
Are you like St.John, keeping close to Jesus in prayer by talking to him, staying with him in trial, and making a thanksgiving after communion, or like St.Peter, running away to your own business after mass as quickly as possible with no thought for God?
Are you like the holy Women of Jerusalem, weeping and rending your heart over the abuse Jesus has to suffer by his own people, who do not recognize him present among them, or are you one of them, who by pride do not recognize your saviour present, now present not as a suffering servant, but in the blessed sacrament?
Are you like St.Veronica, seeking to make reparation for the offenses your Jesus suffers at the hands of the cruel Romans, Or are you one of the Romans, inflicting offense on Our Lord by receiving him in a state of unconfessed mortal sin?
Are you like the holy angels, keeping watch with our lord in his prayer at Gethsemani, Or are you Like Ss.Peter, James, and John, deserting him in your own hour of need by not staying with him in prayer?
Are you like S.Dysmus, seeing your God so close to you, and yourself in need of strength and forgiveness, and so you repent of your sins, Or are you like the impious theif who refused to recognize Christ, refused pardon, and died in disgrace?
Are you Like Our Blessed Lady, Mary, silently and reverently participating and joining in Our Lord's sacrificial death, or are you distracted, irreverent, loud, and too busy externally to delve deep into the mystery of Christ's self offering?
These are simple, we must answer them in humility and honesty. We might wish to be among the good, the holy, and the pious people at Our Lord's passion but more often we are among those we judge to be bad. Look at your own soul and judge it, pray, and make ready, and participate actively in the liturgy.Make your thanksgiving always, and you may have assurance that Our Blessed Lord is pleased and contented to stay awhile with you.
he said that it was his desire to dwell among the hearts of everyone, and told his apostles to find a large, clean, and furnished upper room where he might eat the pasch with them.
Think on this.

On ambos.

Inspired by tis post.
One thing I really like is when a parish has a really good ambo. It really does give prominence to the readings at mass. Plus, I like to actually SEE the reader, not hear a disembodied voice over the speakers. So short little reading-desks are out. And since I'm about to make a tangent anyway, I know we should be inclusive and welcoming and stuff to everyone, and that's all good, but I don't think it's really discrimination if we make sure that readers at mass can actually, you know, read. There's nothing more painful than being at the mass with the person who reads everything in a whisper, or the person who reads in a monotone like Ben Stein, or the person who just can't pronounce words.

I've decided to stop attending Latin masses.
Sorry for any shock I caused more traditional readers. There's something else I need you to know, but I feel it's best said in black text. highlight it with your cusor to see.
SHENANIGANS! Cause, It's like, April Fools Day so I wroted a joke post and stuff about something that's probably not going to happen unless I get amnesia and am suddenly stupider and stuff so....yah...

Tuesday.
Got to school early to pick up my cell phone that I lost there, and a teacher has had for several days. Get this: he told my dad, but despite seeing my several times a day, never told me that had it.
I call senility.
Term paper nearly due and I still have only three pages plus my thesis done. I'm looking over the propers for holy week now, and wondering what to do for holy Saturday's lauds hymn Tibi Redmptor Omnium, as there is no tune for it. It's one of Vaganinni's re-workings, and there is no Antiphonal for the 1969 breviary yet. (Yup, still waiting for it. Since 1969.)
I can't seem to get my colored pencils and my latest artwork in the same place. Either I have one or the other, but not both.
Latest issues of Sporting News and Shonen Jump have arrived. Full color manga pages. Nice. Comment on the first magazine later.
It looks like my camerais surely broken, so I don't know about the photos. And I was going to prove my PODness with a photo of my home altar with the crucifix, triptych, and holy cards veiled in purple.
